Michael P. Gelbart, D.D.S.
General Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Gelbart graduated from New York University in 1975 with a B.S. degree, and went on to graduate from the New York University School of Dentistry in 1979. In 1980 he established Family Dental Centers in upstate New York, creating practice groups in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, Brewster, Yonkers, Yorktown Heights and Manhattan.
Dr. Gelbart is a diplomate of American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID). There are only a few hundred ABOI/ID diplomates in the world, and Dr. Gelbart is one of only a few in the entire Hudson Valley (from New York City to Albany). It took years to receive this prestigious designation and required presenting 100 cases, a written exam and an oral defense of 10 cases.
Dr. Gelbart is a former NYU Clinical Assistant Professor, having trained NYU dental students for more than seven years. His continuing dental and medical practice education includes attendance at numerous symposiums and educational forums in implants, sinus lifts and bone augmentation at NYU and The Connecticut Implant Institute. He has also attended practice seminars in the rescue and repair of implants and implant-blades. In 2008, he attended the prestigious Vegas Institute for Cosmetic and Neuromuscular Dentistry.
Dr. Gelbart focuses on keeping up-to-date with all of the latest advancements in dentistry and medical technology, enabling him to practice at the highest level of dentistry and provide the best quality of care in the field. His expertise ranges from the most challenging cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments to the most complicated dental surgeries performed today.
Since placing his first implant in 1991, Dr. Gelbart has been called on to place over 20,000 implants for patients in the US and abroad, with an extremely impressive record of success. Edward Drescher, D.D.S.
Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Dr. Drescher is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Certified Anesthesiologist. He specializes in placing dental implants and performs advanced surgical procedures such as extractions of impacted wisdom teeth. Dr. Drescher is certified to provide I.V. sedation, which keeps patients conscious, pain-free and responsive to instruction. Dr. Drescher graduated from New York University College of Dentistry. To become an oral surgeon, four additional years of education are required, after completing four years of dental school. He trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at New York Hospital’s Cornell Medical Center. He also completed residencies at the VA Hospital and the Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his anesthesiology training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is the attending doctor in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut. He is also a course director at the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons annual implant seminar.
Neil Kesselman, D.D.S.
General and Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Neil Kesselman has been practicing dentistry for 30 years. He received his Bachelors of Science at SUNY Binghamton. Dr. Kesselman then went on to obtain his D.D.S. at the Ohio State University. He has been with Family Dental for over 20 years. Dr. Kesselman caters to nervous patients and enjoys transforming a patient back into normal function and appearance.
Nicholas Katchun, D.D.S.
Dr. Katchen received his DDS from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Following the completion of a one year fellowship in special patient care at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY, he became certified in dental anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center.Having a strong dedication to treating children, especially those with special needs, Dr. Katchen completed his specialty training in pediatric dentistry at Stony Brook University. He is board eligible in both dental anesthesia and pediatric dentistry. Dr. Katchen is on staff at New York University College of Dentistry as an instructor in pediatric dentistry to pre-doctoral students and Lutheran Medical Center as an attending in anesthesia. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. Dr. Katchen is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support. He enjoys reading and is currently learning to speak Spanish.
Rebekah Tannen, D.M.D.
Dr. Tannen graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1990. She went onto University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery where she completed Doctor of Dental Surgery studies in 1994. After completing two years of a general practice dental residency at St. Barnabas Hospital and a Fellowship in Special Care Dentistry at The Rose F. Kennedy Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine Dr. Tannen decided to focus on pediatrics. Dr. Tannen completed her two-year pediatric dental training at St. Barnabas Hospital in 1999. Upon graduation she began practicing pediatric dentistry in New York City, Dutchess and Putnam County New York while teaching at St. Barnabas Hospital, as an associate attending. In 2003 she became a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is now committed to treating the patients of Family Dental Group in Fishkill and Brewster New York. She continues to teach and in 2005 became the Section Chief of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Fernando Ehrhardt D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Erhardt attended the University of Miami in Florida, receiving a B.S. degree in Biology, a B.A. in Religious Studies, and a minor in Theater Arts. He went on to attend Harvard University School of Dental Medicine and Oral Surgery, completing his degree in 2002.
He performed his residency at Bronx, VA Medical Center. He was part of the Clinical Faculty at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery until 2006. He is Board Eligible, American Academy of Periodontology.
Joshua Davis, DMD
General and Cosmetic Dentistry
Joshua Davis, DDS received his degree from New York University College of Dentistry, in New York, NY and performed his residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College, also in New York, NY. Previous to joining the Family Dental Group practice in Brewster, he was an associate at a dental practice in New York, NY.
Dr. Davis is an experienced general dentist with clinical proficiency in restorative and fixed prosthetics, including dental implants, and is experienced in all phases of general dentistry, including, but not limited to crown and bridge, oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and endodontics. Dr. Davis is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and is working towards his Fellow designation.
Vincent Ayuko, D.D.S.
General and Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Ayuko attended dental school at the School Of Dental Sciences at the University of Nairobi, Africa. Upon moving to the United States, he attended New York University, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2004. While attending NYU, he worked as an assistant at Family Dental Brewster. He is an extremely gentle dentist and promises a calm, and pain free visit.
Fred Friedman, D.D.S.
Fred Friedman, DDS received his dental degree from Emory University Dental School in Atlanta, GA and received his certificate in orthodontics from New York University, New York, NY. Previous to joining the Family Dental Group practice, Dr. Friedman has maintained his own successful private practice. Dr. Friedman is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Ninth District Dental Association of New York, and the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Friedman specializes in orthodontic treatment for growing children and adults, including but not limited to traditional metal braces, clear (ceramic braces), and Invisalign for teens and adults.
Insurance Specialist, New York Region
Carla spent two years at Wisconsin State University, before moving to New York, where she attended Mercy College in White Plains. She joined Family Dental in their Brewster office in 1986, holding various roles and eventually becoming Office Manager. In 2011, she moved into her current role, where she is responsible for acting as a bridge between insurance companies and patients. Her strong customer service skills and in depth knowledge of all insurance benefits related to the dentistry arena makes her a perfect fit for her position. She is also responsible for credentialing of professionals in the region, which is the process of establishing the qualifications of licensed professionals.
Karla Nelson, RDH
Karla graduated with a major in dental hygiene from Farmingdale State University in 1993. Karla has been practicing dental hygiene for 21 years. Karla feels this practice has given her the full opportunity to utilize all of her hygiene skills.
Maria has been in management for 26+ years, she has been working for the practice since March of 2014, when she relocated from Florida. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Maria She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the practice and is key in helping the office work together as a team by communicating with staff and providers regularly to ensure they have the information, tools, and support needed to perform their jobs effectively and successfully.
