However, it should be noted that what is actually painful is the condition that leads to you needing a root canal procedure. Most of the time it has to do with an infected pulp (the soft tissue inside your teeth which contains connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves). An infected pulp may result from a cracked/broken tooth, injury to the tooth (despite the absence of cracks or chips), repeated dental procedures, and deep cavities.
