How Are Braces Put On?

The specific steps for getting braces put on are the same for both the metal and ceramic varieties. Before beginning treatment, the dentist or orthodontist will thoroughly clean and dry your teeth. Next, a small amount of bonding glue is applied to the center of each tooth, and the brackets are attached to the tooth. The bonding glue has a somewhat unpleasant taste, but it’s not a harmful substance. For the final step, archwires are placed into each bracket and are securely held into place with elastic bands.

The invisible type of braces is placed in a similar manner, with the exception of the wires and brackets being placed on the back of the teeth. For this reason, placement may take a little longer in comparison to the metal and ceramic types.

What Are the Different Kinds of Braces?

Our dental office offers several options to meet the unique needs of our patients. Metal braces are one of the most common treatment options, consisting of brackets and wires attached to each tooth. Ceramic braces are similar in size and shape as the metal variety, but the brackets are made from a white or clear material that’s less noticeable on your teeth.

An additional option is invisible braces. These consist of metal brackets and wires that are placed on the inside of your teeth, so they’re completely hidden. The invisible type can also consist of clear plastic aligner trays that gradually shift your teeth into the correct position. These can be removed whenever you eat or drink. Contact us today to schedule an appointment, and let our dentist help you make the best choice for braces in Brewster that will improve your smile.

How Much Do Braces Cost?

The total cost of braces depends on a variety of factors, such as the type you receive, your insurance coverage, and the level of correction needed. Be sure to ask your insurance provider if you have coverage for treatment. Our office may also have flexible financing options or payment options available. You can expect to receive a price estimate during your consultation. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

How Long Does it Take to Receive Braces?

The entire procedure can take about an hour or two. You shouldn’t fee any pain while getting braces, although it’s normal to experience soreness in your teeth and gums. This usually subsides within a week and can be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medicine. We also recommend eating soft foods for the first several days to minimize any pain or discomfort. Please call our office if you experience significant soreness or pain that doesn’t improve within one week. In general, the average length of time for orthodontic treatment is one to two years.

What About a Retainer After Braces?

Your orthodontist will recommend wearing a retainer to maintain the alignment of your teeth after completing your braces procedure. Retainers are usually worn at night and are designed to prevent your teeth from shifting out of position.

Retainers are custom-made and are manufactured based on the unique shape of your mouth. Some patients only need to wear their retainer for a year or two while others may need to wear a retainer indefinitely. How long you need to wear a retainer is determined by your orthodontist and is based on your treatment plan.

Most patients can have their braces removed in a single appointment, and the removal process takes about an hour. During removal, your dentist or orthodontist removes all of the brackets from your teeth and thoroughly cleans your teeth to remove any remaining glue. Although getting braces removed doesn’t cause any pain, it’s normal to experience some mild pressure during the removal process. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
